Our job: Teach you how to play tournament golf
Player job: Prepare & Do it consistently
My name is Steve Thompson, and I am the golf coach at BHS. I am very excited to be teaching and coaching at Brookwood. I believe good students make good athletes and good athletes make good students. In order to be on the golf team, students must maintain passing grades and be on track to graduate from high school.
I have played competitive golf for over forty seven years: winning a club championship at three different clubs, finishing in the top twenty in the GSGA mid amateur twice, qualifying for the state amateur twice, and winning numerous club tournaments. Golf is an individual game where one must control their emotions – it is a game of sportsmanship, etiquette, and playing by the rules.
Family is a very important part of my life. I have been married to a wonderful woman for forty two years named Jenny. We have a great daughter, Carrie, who is a band director/ teacher of music technology at Jordan Middle School in Gwinnett County.
I am looking forward to meeting each of you and your parents, having a successful golf season, and improving your golf game skills and enjoyment of the game. Play often, and enjoy the time outdoors.
Remember, our goal is to improve each day, WIN Region & State.
Scott is a teacher in the History Dept at BHS. Scott has coached at BHS for 13 years as our head basketball coach and his son, JT, played for our golf program for 4 years. He has been a valuable asset to our program the last 5 years, assisting in all aspects of the golf program. Coach Terry is a great addition to the golf coaching staff at BHS.
We are very fortunate to have Mike Graham to help teach, monitor, and motivate our players. Coach Graham has successfully completed the GHSA lay coaches program and he has added tremendous support to Coach Thompson and our players. Coach Graham has a son and daughter who both were four-year members of the Brookwood Golf Program. Thank you Mike for your time and commitment.
We are very fortunate to have Coach Ed Sochacki join us this year. Coach Sochaki played college golf at Rider University and was involved with The First Tee in New Jersey in the mid 1990’s. He has caddied every summer for the last 20 years, including at The Player’s Championship Pro-Am at TPC Sawgrass, Trump National and Bethpage Black, which hosted the US Open as well as other top tier golf courses. Coach Sochaki has 3 children, including an 11th grade student at Brookwood HS and he works at Craig Elementary School as a special education teacher. We are excited to have Coach Sochaki as a part of the golf team this year.
